Domenico is Professor of International Law at the University of Trieste and a lawyer at the Rome Bar. At OBH, he serves as Partner and Head of the Department of Public International Law and Arbitration.

Biography

Domenico is Professor of International Law at University of Trieste and lawyer at the Rome bar. At OBH, he is Partner and Head of the Department of Public International Law and Arbitration.

His activity focuses on public international law, having advised and represented States, International Organizations, private and State-owned entities in international law matters, including questions concerning immunity and privileges; litigation and arbitration proceedings; contracts and employment; investment and trade law; environmental law; the law of international organizations and international procedural law. He has also been involved in multilateral negotiations of international legal instruments.

Domenico regularly advise public and private entities on matters related to international trade and investment law, shipping, insurance and international contracts and has developed strong competence in business and human rights matters and in proceedings before supranational conciliatory bodies following corporate human rights violations. Domenico has also participated in proceedings before national and supranational entities for the protection of basic human rights and fundamental freedoms and serves as Expert in International Protection and Human Rights for the UNHCR – the UN Agency for Refugees.

Domenico has significant experience in international and domestic arbitration, having worked cases under both ad hoc rules and institutional rules. He is currently a member of the ICC Italia Arbitration Commission and ICC Italia Nomination Commission. His practice involves also domestic court litigation and complex transnational cases.

Domenico holds a Ph.D. in International and EU Law and he regularly teaches classes and courses on public and private international law and on international arbitration and dispute resolution. He has published extensively in blogs, edited books and peer-reviewed journals on a wide range of topics, including public international law; treaty law; procedural law and dispute resolution; international economic and trade law; investment law and arbitration; international environmental law and sustainable development; human rights; European law. He is author of two monographic book “La promozione dello sviluppo sostenibile negli accordi internazionali sugli investimenti esteri” (ESI, 2023) and “Strumenti internazionali e privati di responsabilità sociale delle imprese” (ESI, 2021).
